Doctoral Student Life
Once you decide to come to the Paul Merage School of Business, you are part
of the team. You might be working with your study group, or a team you pull
together to explore an idea or undertake a class project. You could be partnering
with alumni or staff on research, networking events, running for the leadership
team of a student organization, initiating a new organization or activity for
your classmates.
About Irvine, Orange County, and Los Angeles County
The City of Irvine is located about 45 miles South of Los Angeles International
Airport and about 60 miles of North of San Diego. We are 4 miles inland from
the coast (i.e. Newport Beach), 10 miles North of Laguna Beach, and 15 miles
from Disney Land. In other words, we are very close to beaches, shopping malls
and other tourist attractions.

Social Life and Entertainment
Orange County offers a bevy of social entertainment from fine dining, beach
culture, to night life. Here are a few sites that can get you started:
Weather:
The weather is very pleasant year round. In spring and summer, day time temperature
averages 80-95 degrees Farenheit (27-32 degrees Celsius). In autumn and winter,
averages are about 65-75 degrees Farenheit (18-24 degrees Celsius). With the
exception of the few cold days, a light jacket or sweater will do, even in the
evenings. Please note that Southern California is warmer than Northern California
(San Francisco or Berkley).
Airports:
The major international airport is Los Angeles International (LAX). The nearest
medium sized airport is Orange County (also known as Santa Ana Airport or John
Wayne Airport) which serves many major cities in the US. It is less than 5 miles
(8 km) from our Campus.
There are regular shuttle vans from Los Angeles airport and will cost you $35-$45.
Taxi from the Orange County airport should cost no more than $15.
