Student Leaders Making It Happen

Students in the Fully Employed MBA Program at Merage play a vital role in the Merage Student Association. Student leaders, called Section Representatives, hold their positions from the time they are elected until graduation. They serve as sounding boards for the students in their section, providing feedback from their fellow classmates to the Merage Student Association and the FEMBA Program Office.

The following is a list of brief profiles of our current Section Representatives:

Background:  Just recently changed jobs in Sept 2007.  I was at ARINC for almost 6 years.  I was/am still the technical lead to the National Security Agency (NSA) for the Systems Engineering branch at the Global Positioning System (GPS) Wing at LA Air Force Base.  My job consists of providing technical support for the cryptographic modules placed in the GPS satellites, receivers, and at the control segment.
Favorite part about Merage:  My fellow students!  I learn something from them every time I interact with one of them.
Career aspiration:  I'd like to continue along the technical engineering path I've been on for the last 6 years.  However, from a personal stand point, I'd like to be able to open an Asian/French fusion restaurant with some old UCLA students/co-workers.
Activities as a FEMBA Section Rep:  As the FEMBA 09A section rep, I coordinate weekly outings after every Thursday night class, an end of quarter class outing, and a specific Ladies of FEMBA 09A lunch/dinner every quarter.  The FEMBA 09A class has also participated in the MSA softball tournament and the C4C Merage bowl tournament.
Something unique about yourself:  I live and work within 5 miles of LAX.  The commute is occasionally challenging for me, but I make the most of it by trying to get involved as much as possible.

Favorite part about Merage: The structure of the program.  From the start, relationships develop with fellow students, alumni, faculty, and staff.  Along with a strong emphasis on education, networking is a crucial element of the FEMBA program.
Something unique about yourself: I moved to California from Wyoming 5 years ago and I've already learned how to surf and play guitar — not bad for a kid from a city of 13,000.

Favorite part about Merage: My favorite part of Merage is the unity of the students; I have made great relationships in my time here.  I have learned as much from my peers' experience and point of view as I did from the text and professors.  Being part of the Merage family has presented me with lifelong friends and future business partners.
Career aspiration: My career aspiration long-term is to run my own private equity firm.  In the short-term upon graduation from Merage, I want to begin a career in investment banking, specifically focusing on mergers & acquisitions.
Activities as the FEMBA President: Being the President at such an innovative University has been a great experience.  Merage is so dynamic; every new class brings in fresh ideas and new directions.  During my term as President with the support of the rest of the student council, I was able to establish a new Constitution & Bylaws that reflects the advancing direction of Merage, along with beginning an All Merage Networking Series that bring the internal and external business community together. We are also working on an All Merage Day which invites back today's alumni and all future years of alumni to come and play softball every Spring and reflect on what Merage has brought to their life.
Something unique about yourself: Back in June 2004 I decided that I was going to advance my career and education. So after one of the worst winters in New York history, I got in my car as soon as I defrosted and head west. I had not established a job or a GMAT date at that point, all I had was a car payment, apartment lease obligation and 10 interviews with the determination to make it work.  I arrived in Orange County and secured a job immediately with the next goal to find a great MBA Program.  My search began at Merage and once I left my first information session I felt like I found my home again.  I committed to Merage in December of 2004 and started as a FEMBA Section C in March of 2005.  It was the best decision I have made to this point in my academic, personal & professional career.
